Life’s Challenges
This is profound
We never react to the situations around us. We react to our internal reactions. If I say I like you what I really mean is I like how I really feel when I'm with you. We don't learn how to deal with external things. We need to learn to deal with how we react.
Understanding our internal reactions is crucial; it’s not the situations but how we respond to them internally that shapes our experiences and feelings. Learning to manage our internal responses can improve how we deal with life’s challenges.
Failure Journal
Tim Ferriss’s podcast episode with the happiness professor Arthur C. Brooks is one of my favorite podcast episodes ever. I understand happiness much better now.
One thing I really liked was the failure journal Arthur Brooks was talking about:
You need a failure journal.
Every time you fail at something, write it down.
After a month, write down what you learned from that failure.
After 6 months, write down a good thing that happened because of that failure.
Hangover
I recently found a ranking of alcoholic beverages sorted by the severity of hangovers they may cause. Grain alcohol is the least likely to result in a hangover, and brandy tops the list as the most likely.
The complete list, from least likely to result in a hangover to most likely, is as follows:
Grain Alcohol - Vodka - Gin - White Wine -
Beer - Champagne - Whiskey - Rum - Brandy
Quote I Love
Think of yourself in a concert hall listening to the strains of the sweetest music when you suddenly remember that you forgot to lock your car. You are anxious about the car, you cannot walk out of the hall and you cannot enjoy the music. There you have a perfect image of life as it is lived by most human beings.
