Simply Good Life - Dogs | More Focus | Interview Wisdom | History
Hi friends, here is your weekly dose of “Simply Good Life", the optimistic newsletter that makes your day a little bit better and helps you grow personally and professionally. Enjoy!
Welcome Friends!
In this week's newsletter, we'll explore improving our mental focus, advice from my favorite authors, and an insightful quote on history. Stick around to the end - I've included my social links in case you want to connect further.
Dogs - Our Link To Paradise
“Dogs are our link to paradise. They don’t know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring—it was peace.” — Milan Kundera
I love this quote, Milan Kundera captures the special ability of dogs to lift our souls from life's pressures. I definitely enjoy my long morning walks with Ruby, I often just sit around with her, enjoying the silence around us.
Focusing Your Mind
Do you want to improve focus for the next important task?
Spend one minute looking at the dot here and breathing. https://oneminutefocus.com/
Studies in brain science show that focusing visually actually can help our brain focus on a task.
I open this website every single day around 3pm to have a moment of quietness.
Interview Wisdom
This is something I have learnt from Robert Cialdini, one of my favorite authors.
At the start of a job interview, Robert recommends asking your interviewer why they chose you for the interview. This brings your positive qualities to the front of their mind
So simple, but powerful!
A Lesson From History
In a recent interview, Tony Robbins was talking about the cycle of history.
The Cycle of History
Good times create weak people,
weak people create bad times,
bad times create strong people,
strong people create great times.
A sobering reminder from a thousand years of Roman history - societies go through natural cycles of strength and weakness over time. Makes me think about where we stand in the current cycle. History certainly does seem to find a way of repeating itself.
Have a great day,
Adam
